Doug and Melanie Pritchard were looking forward to meeting their baby daughter for the very first time, but they had no idea what was in store for them when Melanie went into labor.
It seemed like a normal pregnancy for Melanie Pritchard, but once she began to go into labor, things took a dark turn. While Melanie was waiting to deliver her baby, she was sitting in a hospital bed when all of a sudden she began to have convulsions. All of the monitors began to flash and make loud noises. Something was very wrong. The doctors rushed over and immediately yelled out “code blue.” Doug was absolutely terrified watching this unfold before his eyes.
The doctors were unable to save her. Melanie tragically died from an amniotic fluid embolism. There was only one silver lining for Doug, however.
My wife was clinically dead when they delivered my daughter. My first though was, ‘I’m a widower.’ And we’d only been married three years… They had asked us to say our goodbyes. I remember asking her vividly, ‘If you have any fight left in you, then fight!’
Doug was an emotional wreck. While he was meeting his baby daughter, but he was also forced to say goodbye to his loving wife. Doug and his family prayed for Melanie. If not for her safe return, then that she may peacefully pass on.
Then a miracle happened. The doctors were able to resuscitate Melanie back to life. She was alive again, but her condition was still getting worse. She wasn’t out of the woods, yet.
Soon Melanie’s brother, a doctor, arrived and reviewed her case. He discovered that she was suffering from internal bleeding. They needed to operate and fast. Soon Melanie was rushed to an operating room where she would undergo immediate surgery. Her family was once again asked to say their final goodbyes in case she did not make it.
Although the chances were slim, Melanie managed to pull through. Nearly 24 hours after Melanie was pronounced clinically dead, she opened her eyes once more. When she opened her eyes she was greeted by her husband who showed her a picture of their baby girl. Melanie was happy, but the doctors soon had more bad news for Doug and their family. Melanie’s outlook was still not good. She would need a heart or lung transplant. Even if she somehow managed to survive the transplant, there was a high chance that she would suffer from neurological issues for the rest of her life. After what can only be described as a complete roller-coaster of emotions, Doug never gave up hope on Melanie. He knew that Melanie would somehow pull through.
The doctors were stunned, Melanie was breathing on her own within mere hours. The doctors could not believe that she had somehow recovered. Melanie was being taken off of medications as her condition improved. She was miraculously recovering on her own.
By the end of the week, Melanie returned home, healthy as can be. No health complications, no issues relating to the birth, just a happy mother and her baby girl, Gabriella.
