Married Couple Discovers they were once Childhood Sweethearts

Do you believe in fate? A woman in the United Kingdom didn’t … that is, until a childhood photo was found. She realized the man who’s her husband now was right beside her in the photo many years ago. They even held hands.

Heidi and Ed Savitt, both 26 and living in London, married in August 2017 after meeting six years ago at Newcastle University. The couple first spoke after Ed messaged Heidi to ask for instructions on how to use the tumble dryer. He saw her name on a notice when he moved into a student house where Heidi had previously lived, and thought to call her.

They started dating shortly after and even had dinner with their mothers. Ed’s mother, Fiona, later talked with Heidi’s mother, Kay Parker, on their love for sailing, and that was when Kay mentioned about Heidi having a “holiday boyfriend,” also called Ed, when she was 6. Heidi and the boy had played together and even held hands for two weeks during the holiday.

According to MailOnline, when everyone heard the story, they thought it was strange, and Fiona even smashed her wine glass. The topic was soon changed.

Two weeks later, Kay found a photo album containing photos from a sailing holiday in Gumbet, Turkey, in her attic. Kay instantly recognized Ed standing beside Heidi in one of the photos dated July 1997.

“I was screaming, it was just unreal. Of course, I sent it to Fiona. Then loads more photographs came out,” Kay said. “None of us had any idea whatsoever that Heidi and Ed had met before university. But during that two-week holiday, they held hands most of the time. Perhaps they just had a subconscious realization they had shared that time together when they met as adults.”

“When Kay sent me the photo of a little boy called Ed I shrieked, ‘oh my goodness, that’s Ed!’ It was unbelievable,” Fiona recalled. “We sent it around to all our family and friends and everyone was amazed. The phones didn’t stop ringing and everyone was liking it on Facebook.”

When Heidi found out that she and Ed were long-lost childhood sweethearts, she said, “I didn’t believe in fate before finding that out but there’s no arguing with it—we’re clearly destined to be together!”

“It’s crazy to think we could have got married, shared our lives together, but then never found out about this,” she added.

The couple’s parents are now good friends who often go on holidays with each other. The rest of their family are also close.

“It was not just Heidi and Ed who met on that holiday but all of us as well,” Kay said. “It is just such a lovely, incredible story.”
