Dutch Hospital Created Unique Clip-On Baby Bassinets : Direct Interaction With Newborns

The moments after a woman gives birth are some of the most precious times between a mother and her child; however, sometimes there are certain limitations that either prevent or make it much harder for a mother to snuggle with her child.

A Dutch hospital has a solution.

This hospital bed is being hailed as a “game changer.”

In 2015, BellyBelly, an Australian pregnancy and parenting website, shared a photo and asked mothers their thoughts on the unique hospital bed.

“[It] would’ve meant I could lay with our baby instead of perching on the edge of the bed all night staring at her in wonderment,” one commenter wrote.

The majority of the mothers who commented on the photo were thrilled with the concept and remarked how after a C-section it would have made holding, changing, and feeding their child much easier.

Unlike a traditional hospital crib, the one at Gelderse Vallei connects directly to the mother’s bed.

According to the hospital, Gelderse Vallei, which is in the Netherlands, new mothers typically stay for only for a few days. However there are occasions where a mother needs to stay longer, for example if she experienced high blood pressure throughout her pregnancy or if she had a C-section.

Staff set up the bassinet for those who need a longer stay in the hospital, reported Bored Panda.

Many mothers have praised the invention.

While many mothers wrote that they would have loved to use one of Gelderse Vallei’s bassinets, some professionals are hesitant about them.

“If the mother rolls over from exhaustion, there would be the risk of smothering the baby,” Iffath Hoskins, MD, an OB-GYN at NYU Langone Medical Center, told Yahoo Parenting.

She also pointed out that it does have its benefits, like it being much easier for a new mother to comfort her baby.

Although some question its safety, there are definitely some positives for both mother and baby that have excited a lot of women!
