We’ve come a long way when it comes to talking about body positivity and inclusivity. Just a few years back, people felt that the only body type that was considered beautiful was skinny. The skinnier, the better. This isn’t the case today.
Today, more people are making it their mission to turn to social media and make it clear that any body type is the perfect body type. The more we talk about the issue, the more likely we’ll inspire change.
British model Emily Bador is one of those people. In 2016, she took time off from her modeling career to work on loving herself after realizing the fashion world was causing her to take on unhealthy practices. Now she is becoming an inspiration.
She uses her Instagram to talk about issues like self-love and diversity and also document her journey through unedited photos.
Bador also uses insightful captions that put pressure on the fashion industry to evolve.
Bador posted a before-and-after photo collage, showing just how drastically she’s changed since her high fashion days.
She captioned the photo by writing that in just two years, she’s gone up by a few dress sizes and added roughly 6 inches to her waist.
On top of all this, she has never been as happy with the way she looks as she is now. Overall, weight-gain has improved her life. She wrote: “I’m finally, FINALLY content with my body.”
She further explained what she meant by seeing her weight gain as a positive: “I don’t have panic attacks before leaving the house anymore. I eat whatever I want and I don’t feel guilty after, and I’m not in the gym every freaking day.”
She finished her post by saying: “It’s not the body you see idolized in the media, but I’ve never felt so confident.”
Bador mentioned in her post that the “before” picture was taken while she was on vacation in Croatia with friends. She mentioned how miserable she was, not being able to enjoy carbs or alcohol.
Now, however, she notes that she can leave the house, eat carbs and not feel guilty about it. She also goes to the gym only a few times a week.
She also mentioned that now, people don’t just idolize her for her body. Instead, they love her for who she is and the things that she does. She is an inspiration to many people struggling with body image issues.
She continued, “As long as you feel good about yourself and you take care of your physical and mental health that’s all that matter.”
Bador’s before-and-after Instagram post is proof that a lot of us are in a constant fear of gaining weight. For some, how they feel depends on the number on the scale.
But sometimes, and Bador is proof of this, gaining weight can actually bring a form of happiness and peace of mind that you might not necessarily have felt before.
Bador’s honesty has made a huge impact on people. According to Elle UK, the model has received large amounts of messages from women sharing their stories and thanking her.
